Recovering after re-writing on the drive?

Ugh. So I ran Recuva on a Maxtor One Touch III I was having problems with. I was thrilled when it successfully found all my pictures!!! Unfortunately, I was running it on a netbook and there was not enough storage on there for all the files. I took as many as I could fit and saved them back onto the hard drive. OOPS, because then I just read somewhere that once you re-write onto the drive it's likely you'll never retrieve the original info. Is this true? I'm re-running a deep scan now and am really hoping it finds the original files!!!!

Never is a strong word, but yes it is increaingly more difficult to recover if you have done any writing onto the drive recovering from.

Sorry
