Hello,
Due to a software problem in the windows backup procedure, most of my data stored on a specific partition of my HDD diappeared.
I made up to now a trial to recover these data with 2 data recovery sw, Stellar Phoenix Data recovery and Recuva.
Both systems give me a list of the lost files, which seems relatively complete and correct but, in both cases, the recovered files, which I stored an an external disk, are, for most of them, unreadable. This applies as well to doc, docx, xls, pdf, jpg ..files.
Is there a way to recover these data?
Thank you for the help.
Jack
Hi Jack.
I don't have a definitive answer for you as to why you're files are unreadable, but until either myself or one of the other guys can come up with a logical explanation, maybe some more information may help.
Which operating system are you running, and is the partition in question on your System Drive?
What is the Windows Backup Procedure you were running, and does it store data in it's own format (some commercial programs do this), or is it a normal back up of files in their original format?
Have you tried looking at the drive with Windows Disk Management to see how Windows now recognizes it?
You could also do this with Partition Managing software like "MiniTools Partition Wizard".
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
Is the partition still coming up as a normal drive with it's letter, or is it now coming up as "Unallocated Space" for example?
I'm trying to get a picture as to the state of the drive and what may have happened to it, just in case it can be restored with partitioning software.
Thanks.
