Recent Programs Will Not Populate After CCleaner Scan

After using CCleaner my copy of Windows Vista has stopped displaying a list of recently used programs in the start menu. I have checked off the "Store and display a list of recently used programs" option and the number of programs set to display is not 0. Also I have edited the StartMenuInit or whatever to 3 as a couple of forums have suggested to other people with a similar problem as me, but it didn't work. Also there was a post in this forum by wisewolf or something like that saying that he just cleared the recent items manually and rebooted and that worked for him...didn't work for me though.

I am completely baffled and any help would be greatly appreciated. I really like CCleaner's efficiency and ease of access and would like to continue to use it. However if it's going to mess up my computer like this I don't think I would be comfortable enough to use it. Thanks in advance to anyone that tries to help. :)

Edit: Also, if anyone could tell me how to prevent problems like this from happening in the future I would also be very grateful for that. Thanks again!

Hi WeHeartKatamari, and welcome to the forum.

In CCleaner, have a look at "User Assist History" in the Advanced section of CCleaner, and make sure it's unchecked. You could also make sure "Other Explorer MRU's is unchecked in the Windows Explorer section, although that would leave Recently Used lists in some programs.

Try unchecking those one at a time, and if that isn't any help, it could be the problem outlined and fixed at this link.

Hope that helps.

I just decided to set up a new partition in my HD with TinyVista on it instead of Vista and just drag over the files I need. Thanks for your time, though! Do you know of any ways to prevent this from happening when I run CCleaner this time?
