Ran CCleaner have problems can't Merge bkp or Restore

Hello.

Ran CCleaner, first analyzed, then scanned registry for issues and fixed issues. I used the software to make a backup of the registry ? on my C: drive.

Afterwards I have no sound on my computer.

If try to merge the backup file I get this error - Cannot import *file name*. Error accessing the registry.

If I try to restore my system to a previous restore point, the restore fails.

HELP please.

Did you change the name of the backup file before you used it? It must end in .reg.

Also try start,>run. Type in the word regedit and click ok/or press enter.

then do file>import and browse to where your CCleaner .reg back up is and select it.

Also reboot afterwards.

I am having the same problem! I just upgraded (I thought) to the latest version of ccleaner. I haven't changed the name of the backup file. I have rebooted and rebooted. I have tried to import from regedit, it won't read the file either, and the Dell system restore won't work. Now I can't click on hypertext in my email and get to the web anymore. This happened the last time I used ccleaner too, but I was able to restore the registry. Not this time. HELP!!!!! I've also lost the link to my custom content on my google home page, lots of other annoying stuff.

I propose a simple test.

Run Regedit, select a small key, and export it as test.reg

Ask Regedit to import the exported test.reg.

If it fails then Regedit has failed and you need to fix Windows - CCleaner is not giving trouble.

Then use Windows Explorer and double click test.reg

If it fails perhaps you need to fix File associations - CCleaner is not giving trouble.
