Programmes for coverting Cassettes to CDs.

Would welcome details of freebie programmes for converting cassettes to CD disc.

Have programmes from elsewhere but but find them difficult to understand because

they seem to assume that anyone that submits this sort query has all his "buttons"

whereas I'm well past my sell-by date.

Why is it that programmes assume a knowledgeof a subject?

first record cassettes to HDD then burn them on a CD

1- you need a cassette deck or similar(stereo system) that has RCA line out see pic

2- need "Stereo-mini to RCA" cable like this one

use cable to connect the cassette deck/stereo system to computer's soundcard "line in" blue see pic

3- need a recording program. the free recorder I know is Audacity

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

4-do a test first>play a cassette in the deck>select "line in" in Audacity> start recording. make sure the volume control for line in is not muted. box unchecked see pic

The cassette deck is the best for optimum recordings because it is designed for such purpose. It sends correct noiseless sound level for recording through its "RCA line out". However, recordings can be done using any stereo cassette player

connect the headphone jack to the souncard, the blue"line in". this time you need this kind of cable

MAKE SURE THE HEADPHONE VOLUME LEVEL IS SET TO MINIMUM FIRST then gradually increases it to suit your recording.

YOUR SOUNDCARD MIGHT BE DAMAGED IF THE VOLUME LEVEL WAS HIGH.

Then carry on with steps 3 and 4 as above.
