PremiumTechnical Support says license not activated

There doesn’t seem to be a section for my problem. I upgraded to Premium with Kamo but am having a problem with Kamo and iPlayer so thought I’d ask technical support but that says my license is not activated. How long do I have to wait before it is?

Hi, @StarNamer

I’ve moved your query to the Kamo section.

To activate Kamo you need to enter the licence key that you were sent, see:
https://support.ccleaner.com/s/article/how-do-i-activate-kamo?language=en_US

Kamo says it’s activated and the private connection page gives my location as Covent Garden UK (it’s actually near Manchester) but when I try to play something from my watchlist in BBC iPlayer there’s a banner saying

“BBC iPlayer only works in the UK. Sorry, it’s due to rights issues. In the UK? Here’s some advice.”

If I try to open a live channel I get the message “This content is not available in your location.”

It seems I have to turn private connection off to access BBC iPlayer which means it’s off for any other web page.

The Private Connection module does use a VPN:

Some websites will see that VPN and may think that you are in a different country trying to access UK only content.

Specifically in the case of iPlayer, it may think you are in the UK but haven’t paid for a TV licence so are trying to get round that restriction.
The BBC are heavy handed like that when it comes to TV licensing.
The BBC want the UK TV licence money, or a cut from any non-UK access provider.

To them it doesn’t matter if you are actually somewhere else in the UK, and have paid a UK TV licence of course, they just see the VPN and so regard you with suspicion.
As long as a VPN is in use iPlayer will see it and reject it.

So I think that it’s as you say, to use iPlayer you will have to turn Private Mode off, and remember to turn it back on again once you have finished watching.

Having said that have a read of this: BBC iPlayer not Working with VPN? How to Fix in 2024
It may or may not help but does explain what is going on with iPlayer and VPNs.
