This powerful big tornado started forming over Burlington, Iowa where I live early in the evening last night, and then went across the river and caused severe damage in Cameron, Illinois which is a short drive from where I live.

I'm glad we hardly ever have anything like that in the UK.
Stay safe over there.
We were in the basement until 6:20pm last night when they cancelled the tornado warning for Burlington, IA, and it was a very eerie storm that was literally "the calm before the big storm" because there wasn't a sound outside - something which I've seen hundreds of times before living in the midwest. When I came up from the basement I looked east towards the river and Illinois and the sky looked black and ominous, and then I think at 6:39pm the TV weather stated a trained spotter spotted a huge tornado that was moving slowly at 25mph. It was on the ground for a very long time!
Quite a few derechos & derecho-esque systems ran through the upper mid-west this summer already. I love the look of those clouds but would not want to experience them in my face.

Those can do very wide-spread damage since they're often called land hurricanes.
Still, not as scary as those sharknados. ![:D]()
