After using the recover tool, I am unable to view jpg files. The file apears to be present in the viewer however when I try to open the message received unable to view photo.
any suggestions?

Do you mean Recuva? If so, you might get faster help if you post in the Recuva Discussion forum.
Also, which version of Recuva? Which OS and viewer are you using? Is your problem with just the recovered files or all jpg files?
EDIT: If the problem is with recovered files, how much time passed between deletion and recovery? It's possible the sectors they occupied were partially overwritten and the files may be corrupted.
Recuva 1.03.100 windows xp and the recover status before starting recovery was excellent, the viewer was windows picture viewer, windows picture and fax and adobe photo shop neither of the three would show the recovered photos.
