Hi Eli,

Thanks for the link. Nothing like a good refresher to stay up-to-date.

If they were old wives tales then I would definitely put a lot of trust in them.

Since they are myths, then I can be assured they are founded on old outdated data or just plain incorrect data or misinterpreted data .

Somehow that brought back a memory of Inspector Clouseau's lines:

So do i. Disabling services is not only about performance, it's about security also. Atleast with some services.

Has anyone here disabled Indexing Service?

Hi

Before you think about disabling this service,I suggest you look here:

That's one of the first things I do.

I have it set to manual on my system.

So should I disable my Indexing Service? I almost NEVER use Search in Windows XP.

Also, should I create a restore point, before I uncheck allow Indexing Service in My Computer?

You can set it to manual then see how things go for a day or two, it isn't like it can't be set back to Automatic. I've never liked the search function in XP, and never will.

Absolutely.

I've always had Indexing Service in Manual...

Hi Andavari,

I have started using the new Windows Search 4.0.

It allows for selective indexing and you can still use old "Rover or ToTo" if you like.

So now you have 2 indexers you can play with.

The Windows Search Indexer also has an Indexer "Snooze" button.

Best wishes,
