i noticed that the File menu in Word and Excel is missing recent files. Does CCleaner destroy them? I want it to delete temp files, but not the recent opened file list.

To preserve the recent files list, deselect Cleaner > Applications > Office

Office temporary files normally delete automatically when the application is closed. They should only persist if the application crashes.
