We've fixed the issue where the Smart Cleaning could be turned off by toggling the Automatic Updates setting. This means CCleaner should only run in the background if either Autoupdates or Smart Cleaning (or both) are enabled. We deemed this the more serious bug so we fixed this first.

The dump issue will take a bit more time to resolve, but it is under investigation. The dump files are not particularly large but when we apply that fix we will clean up any dumps generated.

I have ccleaner v5.74.8197, and even with Autoupdates and smart cleaning both off, ccleaner keeps living in the system tray.
I'm on v5.74.8198 and also seeing that the normal exit/close (using X at top right of the window) does not terminate the program as it did before the update to this version.

If you don't want Smart Cleaning enabled, uncheck all checkboxes on that screen and then switch off 'automatic updates' on the Update screen. We'll patch it in the next day or so.

Hi. Are you guys still going to issue an update for this issue, or do we need to just wait for the next general release?
Following Nukecad's process above fixes the issue temporarily for me. After I reboot, it's running in the background and showing in the system tray again. Opening the CCleaner UI after said reboot, I can confirm that neither Smart Clean or Auto Update is enabled.
We have seen this System Tray icon persistence in a couple of cases.
It seems to be an issue with the task not always being removed from the Windows Task scheduler as it should be, so for a few people the task starts up again if/when you reboot your machine.
(Which in turn seems to depend on just how the update to 5.74 was done, and in what order the new CCleaner settings were changed).
Following the steps in the this post should clear it up:
