New PC

So I just finished my masters degree last week. My wife decided that this was enough to allow me to build myself a new gaming pc. My old one was still fast (Fx6300, HD 7870) but I wanted something new for all the games coming out soon.

Oh and I think she wanted the old one so she could play the sims 4 better.

Here is what I got:

Core i5-4590

R9 290x

8gb DDR3

256gb Samsung Evo SSD

1tb Western Digital HD

This thing is awesome! I cant wait for Arkham Knight to come out!

what OS did you go for?

I've been building rigs with the same specs (no add-on graphics though) and have found it all comes down to having a SSD.

now that I/O bottleneck is gone even i3's and 4gig's RAM is more than fine.

and Congrats on the Masters, it is no small effort.

I started to upgrade my Bachelor to a Masters a while ago (in computing) and found it too disconnected to the 'real world', got disillusioned and dropped it.

so well done.

Windows 8.1

This pc is hooked up to my living room tv and is used to stream tv and play video games(with xbox 360 controller) exclusively.

Congratulations on your degree and the new computer. :)

Well good luck with your new rake servant :-)

Sounds like a nice powerful system for gaming, video encoding, etc. And mucho kudos to the boss for giving you permission!

Is it time to change that text above your avatar to something like "I love computers I build." ;)

Thanks guys. That degree was a monster to finish.

I'm lucky when it comes to tech purchases. My wife is just as interested in buying computers/gadgets but she is also better with money than I am. :P

My wife is just as interested in buying computers/gadgets....

Damn, I have to get me one of those models...

Well done and congratulations on your Masters Degree...............you must be very pleased with your self sounds like your Wife is also pleased and proud of your efforts.

On the Geek front.............the new PC sounds great............enjoy
