Need instruction for recovering an formatted hdd 1 tb.

Hi

I used recuva several times and it was good for recovering low capacity storage i mean it's the best i used till among all recovering program (even none free programs).

my problem :

i have an 1TB Seegate Goflex External HDD do to an error need format or sth i performed an quick format and know i need my precious Data it was around 900 GB data on it can recuva recover all of my data? with their names? how much it takes to scan ? how much it takes to recover them? i have windows 7 ultimate 32bit and windows xp sp3 32bit.

If the data is formatted over, it is likely that it will be unrecoverable, however you can try. Just make sure not to recover to the same harddrive the files were deleted from, or you risk overwriting them

A quick format should not have overwritten (much) user data. In Recuva Advanced Mode check Options/Actions/Scan for Non-Deleted Files. Try a normal scan first, and recover any files to another drive, as Winapp says. Normal scan should be fast. How long to recover? I dunno, how long does it take to read/write 900 gb of data? The answer would be a very long time on my machine. I should do it in manageable chunks.

OH, I didn't read quick format. That just overwrites the metadata, right? As opposed to a full format 0'ing out the drive?

Thank You i am just wondered about the files name cuz the names and folder are very important to me wich OS You perfer to recover HDD on it? Windows 7 it's installed on a low spec pc or windows xp sp3"installed on a hi spec pc".

It doesn't matter what machine you recover to, as long as the free space is enough and it is NTFS so that it can hold files larger than 4 gb. The file names will not be changed or lost, you can restore the folder structure too if you wish.

but i tested recuva on a 8 gb drive that formatted with quick format and :

1. only 88 file found and 437 ignored .

2.half of them has name and the other half names are like this :

[000001].jpg [000002].avi ....

3.no folder structure

how can i make recuva to find everything not ignore em ?

i have searched 5 time's and every time is the same result:

cheked the folder structure maker

no filter search

deep scan

ty

Perhaps 437 files were destroyed by whatever error caused you to then do a quick format.

What did the "Quick Format" ?

i.e., Windows 7 or Windows XP, or something else such a Linux or a third party Boot CD.?

What is your new format and file cluster size ?

What were they before the Quick Format ?

Are you scanning with Scan for Non-Deleted Files checked, as suggested?

In Advanced Mode Options/Actions make sure that the first three boxes are checked (as well as the other actions you have chosen), and this should show all the ignored files. The bad news is that there is a reason why they were ignored so it probably won't show your lost files.
