I've been using CCleaner for a long time now and I've had no problems using it.I always use it at the most secure deletion setting.But now things have gone wrong,files that have never been deleted using CCleaner before are getting deleted without me setting it up to do so.I noticed that CCleaner has now started to go into my documents and deleted hundreds of my photos,my text files with listings of my regular sites and passwords and my video files are all been deleted.No program has been able to recover any of these,which has now made me very nervous using CCleaner again in-case it starts deleting what remains of my documents.So could you please tell how I can stop this from happening again!
Sorry to hear you are having this issue. I assume that you have checked to make sure the PHYISCAL files are actually gone and that it isn't just removing shortcuts.
Do you have any symbolic links (I.e. do you have my music folder pointing to another drive)
First of all you need to turn off the extreme "secure" delete you don't need it and right now especially as you may need to run recovery programs
Do you have Wipe Free space checked off?
Do you have any custom locations (either through include section or through Winapp2.ini)
What version of the operating system are you running?
Most importantly we need to figure out what is causing this to occur.
Please do the following
- uncheck everything on both tabs
- check the first item
- Run an analyis
- Double click on the results (so you are in detailed results)
- if the documents area you are talking about are not listed
- uncheck that item and check the next one
- run analyisis
- keep doing this for every checkmark on both tabs
report back when you know what check box is doing this, btw, I'd start with the most likly ones first like "custom files and folders"
