Need help with drop down menus in IE 6.0

Hi there;

I am running a Sony laptop with Win 98 Second Edition and Internet Explorer 6.0. I use www.google.com as my home page.

Before I ran CCleaner the Google search block would retain a history of things I'd type in and if I just typed in a letter or two it would drop down a menu and I could select an item. I would regularly delete entries I didn't need by highlighting them and hitting the delete key.

After I ran CCleaner not only did it wipe out all my entries that I was saving but it somehow turned off the drop down menu feature in Internet Explorer. Nothing I type into the Google search block gets saved and nothing I type into the address bar in IE gets saved. I tried restoring the registry but that didn't help.

I know most people want to turn off the AutoComplete but I want to get it back! I've gone to Tools/InternetOptions and turned on the AutoComplete for Web Addresses and Forms but that didn't help.

I would be very grateful if anyone can tell me how to restore the drop down menu feature. I'm getting tired of typing in the whole search string everytime I want to Google something.

Thanks for your help.

Do you have "recently typed urls" checked in CCleaner, windows tab, Internet Explorer.

If so try unticking it.

Yes, it was checked. I unchecked it and also unchecked the 'delete Index.dat files' and 'Autocomplete Form History'. Nothing changed. I assume the CCleaner deleted or changed something in the registry the first time I ran it (with all the items checked) and now it can't restore that particular registry entry. I even uninstalled Internet Explorer 6.0 and reinstalled it. That didn't help either. I noticed today that when I go to my e-mail at AIM.COM it no longer remembers my log in information. So it's everything that Internet Explorer should retain to complete forms and web addresses is blocked.

Thanks
