question: netveda firewall hasnt had an update in a year and half. should i be concerned? ive tried kerio, zonealarm, and outpost, but so far this is may favorite. any suggestions as to other changes or things i should try to be safe?
i dont surf porn or go to hacker sites by the way.
LOL your about as secure as possible. Who knows though.. maybe Norton could make you more secure. Better go drop that $60 payment right now!
You have the same setup as me actually.
I like netveda and it works fine for me but the only bad thing I've seen was it didn't do to well in leaktests.(someone posted a link I can't find ATM)
Out of the free firewalls my favorite was Netveda, and Jetico(Zone Alarm for people who have no pc experience). Jetico on the other hand came in first or second on the leak test. So you might want to give it a try.
Oh and I hate Asquared but if its not detecting false stuff on your computer then its fine.
no router as of yet. ive been thinking about getting one, but dont want to get something that will be incompatible in a year. any suggestions on a real good kick butt one (that is good for both wired and wireless?). thanks!
For me my favorite one has been the linksys wrt54g. It worked great, had awesome wireless range, and never crashed. That one however got struck by lightning.
When I went to replace it I got this piece of junk belkin one I have now. I got it for about the same price as the linksys one that I had before.(I bought the linksys on sale for $40(used to be around $70).
------------------------
Right now the standard for wireless is 802.11g. Its fast, cheap, and works. They are working on 802.11n which claims to be faster but they are expensive and they aren't standardized yet.(meaning it may become incompatible when the standard is finalized.)
Basically buy 802.11g because it works and wont be incompatible.

Did a quick deal hunt and circuit city has some good deals. Might find better ones the day after thanksgiving or closer to Christmas though.

I still use Sygate firewall which hasn't been updated for a long time, and isn't even supported anymore, but it still flies through every leak test I've tried. So even though I've been considering a change lately I think I'll be sticking with it for a while yet
4 wired connections and I'm not sure how many wireless. The most I've ever had was 3 and that was mine, and two friends playing UT2004.
can i hitch up two computers wired and one wireless?
Yep
can this be integrated into a home security (cameras) system?
If it just hooks up to an ethernet port then yes.
what is the range for the system ( i have a large home and i want my computers at opposite ends)?
I'm not sure what the exact range is. It shouldn't be a problem for you though.
I had mine sitting in my basement office and I could get take my laptop on the front porch and get a connection just fine. I can do this with the belkin too but its not as fast.
Try Bitdefender 9 Standard Antivirus it's rated the # 1 Antivirus program and it's only $29.95 to purchase. It has a 30 trial. They also have a online scanner you can try: Bitdefender online Antivirus scanner. Give the online scanner a try and you won't believe the Virues and Spyware you have.
I have it and I can personally tell it trully is #1. Another program I have and wouldn't do with out is SpySweeper Antispyware. If your interested in looking at SpySweeper go to Webroot.com.
Give it a try and let me know how it turns out.
