anytime i click My Computer, nothing loads. explorer.exe doesn't even get called. i haven't tried restarting but i'm just wondering if there's a fix for it somewhere.
any comments are appreciated.

What OS are you using? Specs. for computer? What was the LAST thing you were doing before the problem occurred?

i was using a program called DVD Demuxer to demux a Vob file(which every other program that i used had a problem with). while it was demuxing, it took a lot of CPU and i kept opening and closing the folder where the program was writing to sooooo...
i just have no idea what could have caused this. i doubt it's the program since it doesn't seem to be anything dangerious(Ad-Watch and AVG didn't complain; and i didn't find any suspicious dlls hooked into explorer or winlogon).
OT: the program demuxed it perfectly and i just used mkvtoolnix to remux the files into a .mkv file
Since you haven't rebooted I would try that first. I don't see how it could have broken anything.
Maybe your pc just needs a rest.

The program could have beens so memory/resource intensive that your comp is just flat out spent and needs rebooted. Although I've seen some rather weird memory related stuff happen in even WinXP even though the memory is good and not faulty - possibility poorly written applications that are resource hogs.
just to give an update, My Computer works after restarting. maybe it was just a memory issue...
If you suspect a memory related problem it wouldn't hurt to run Memtest86+ and let it at least finish one pass, of course multiple passes say overnight whilst you sleep is better to determine faulty memory.
It also wouldn't hurt to try out HD Tune to check the S.M.A.R.T. status of your HDD's and to do a thorough surface scan with HD Tune.
Those two methods may be a tidbit time consuming - but it's better to know what's going on so as to not get a surprise from hardware failure.
