This is a persistent CCleaner Pro problem for OVER A YEAR. I use Firefox ESR (Extended Service Release). Latest version is Firefox 128.8.0_esr. This was just “replaced” with Firefox 136 AGAIN (not what I wanted, meaning a de-install, wiping files and Registry (as it refers to an older unusable Profile").
Please fix this!!!
Just a suggestion…
If you don’t want software to be updated (the whole reason for using an ESR) then don’t use a software updater?
(Or at least unselect that particular software so that it doesn’t get updated).
Of course!!! But I might have thought that it might have been a little “smarter” to distinguish between editions given how popular Firefox has been as an alternative to Google’s “Hoovering” of every scrap of data. I have noticed the the Update feature has become much more “inclusive” for some programs I might have thought too rarely used to bother with.
It’s one of the problems with any sotware or driver updater, they aren’t smart and can’t ‘know’ exactly what you want/need for your particular machine, so they just offer what they ‘think’ the majority of people would want, - or the one with the latest date, or the highest number, regardless of if it’s meant for your machine or not.
The listings now used by the updaters in CCleaner are outsourced, CCleaner has little or no control of what they will offer.
Personally I have never used any such updater and when they were added into CCleaner that didn’t change.
At most I regard them as advice, but wouldn’t (normally) let them update anything and definitely not before I had double checked it.
