I'd really like to give you a detailed report on that, but I couldn't get it off my system fast enough. It took an age to install, and must have unpacked a ton of stuff.
I couldn't even get it to function very well, 'cos it was doing so many things at once. It tied itself up in knots twice, "sorry, I have a problem, and must close".
Awful tacky interface into the bargain. I think it's an application that just tries to do too much.
Far better sticking with your normal audio/video players. IMHO.

Yeah, the more I looked at screenshots of it I was thinking it was just another bloated player however it was still in beta stage when I had downloaded it.
I know nothing is going to replace Foobar2000 on my system especially coupled with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack there isn't much else I need. It's really going to take an awesome achievement for something to replace those two.
Saw the new update about DivX, as well as that Miro program. When I actually could get it to work without crashing, it ran about as fast as glue.
Don't use that DivX player, it's a resource hog. At least it was, when i tried it many years ago...

DivX player, sitting there waiting for a movie to be loaded runs at about 53mb. Takes up 18mb disc space.
Windows Media Player runs at about half that, and plays DivX no problem. As long as you have the DivX codec.
Have used the DivX player to burn DivX movies to disc. Very easy to use.

Yep, I almost bought one when we were talking about it a while ago. One of the Phillips machines, and I'm still thinking of buying one, as I have "one or two" DivX movies now.

The one I was looking at was a Philips also.
You have one or two DivX movies. I guess that would justify a purchase, it would be like having some shaved/sliced ham and no bread to eat it on - go for it!
IMHO Foobar is the best quality music program when setup with the ASIO add on. If you dont have reference monitors though I say that the difference cant be heard.
I use alternative mpeg4-asp directshow decoders other than Divx because their player is bloated. I use ffdshow decoders - being libavcodec derivitaves.
I think with the new sse4 instructions the Divx encoder is better than anyother mpeg4-asp encoder out there but then again, VC-1 or H.264 is a few better encoding standard anyway.

what does sse4 have to do with how good it is? sure it might be a little faster but DivX is certainly not the best in terms of encoding and decoding. Xvid is what you want.
It has everything to do with encoding in mpeg4-asp. 50% real world performance improvement. There is no objective proof if you measure divx against proper objective tests say opsnr / ssm against xvid. All of the comparisons that show xvid to be a better encoder are subjective in nature and prone to bias.
For decoding, I consider libavcodec born ffdshow to be the best mpeg4-asp decoder.
XVID is a legacy open source project where most of the devs have moved onto newer better formats like H.264. It's really only Divx that has continued in the mpeg4-asp space.
