Microsoft is retiring Live messenger in favour of Skype
But I like Windows Live Messenger!
I stopped using the win live client ages ago. I like that they automagically make your account with msn into a skype account, and carry over all of your friends.

Yeah, the "integration" is nice, but I bet even some of my friends won't start using Skype after WLM is gone
They retire it yet it's still up on Microsoft Updates as some all-in-one update package with other stuff included.
I just use it for Facebook chat.
We used to use it a lot, although I stayed with version 8.1. I hated MS's policy at that time of forcing an upgrade by disabling your current version. Easily worked around thankfully.
Skype is the contact medium of choice for our family members now.
