What could I have cleaned that now a bank website says my computer is not recognized & requires an extra security question to be answered? I'm guessing a Cookie of some sort but I I don't want to skip cleaning Cookies but would like to figure out exceptions for websites I access & require recognition. Thanks...
Hi Lee, and welcome to the forum.
As you say, you're probably removing needed cookies with CCleaner. There are two possibilities to check out.
Option 1: Visit the site again, to activate your login details, and then after closing down your browser, check CCleaner/Options/Cookies.
In the "Cookies to Delete" window, see if there's a cookie (or cookies) from that particular site. If yes, highlight it and use the arrow button to move it across to the "Cookies to Keep" window.
Option 2: The site may use "Flash Cookies". If so you will have to look in the following folders.
C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\EJR7ZWV7 (This number will be different on your pc).
C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\macromedia.com\support\flashplayer\sys
If you find the relevant cookie/cookies in either or both locations (it's possible), go to CCleaner/Options/Exclude and browse to the cookie location to exclude it's containing folder from being cleaned.
If there's other unwanted cookies in there, then instead of using the "Exclude Folder" option, use the "Exclude File" option to browse to, and exclude the relevant cookie only from being cleaned.
