Hi gang
I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 installed - which is great.
However, it seems to generate loads of temp files - any chance CCleaner can zap them???
Thanks!

As far as I'm aware CCleaner removes files from commonly used temporary folders providing the files are not exclusively locked.

Nope - it does not. The Kaspersky temp files remain in place after running CCleaner.
And yes, I have "Windows | System | Temporary Files" ticked...
Don't use Kaspersky myself but found these links, perhaps they may help.

Thanks, but no - those are not the files I am talking about if you look at my original post...
Are you able to clean them if you disable Kaspersky self-defense as shown in the link? (don't forget to turn it back on after trying it )

Hi hazelnut
Great suggestion - I disabled self defence - but same result - I simply cannot get rid of the Kaspersky .tmp files using CCleaner!
Peace
Very strange.
If you place other files in C:\Temp, do they get removed?

Yes, they do. CCleaner does a great job, except on the Kaspersky .tmp files.
Well then I'd say give a big kudos to Kaspersky for not letting something mess around with in-use files as any self-respecting good antivirus/antimalware should be doing.
Honestly, as you know that the files belong to your security software, and you know that CCleaner will fail at cleaning them, why not just add them to your exclude list and move on.
I still think it's odd that CCleaner can't nix them when Kaspersky is off

You mean Kaspersky is only a part-time security guard ! !
Better a security guard than a Rent-A-Cop?
Logically it's because these files are difficult for a simple/medium malware to identify as belonging an antivirus (unassuming names, *.tmp files & located in the temp folder). A more sophisticated malware would be able to recognize them, & would then attempt to take them out. Thus they have an added protection feature of being locked for use (possibly at a kernel or near-kernel level). The side effect of this is cleaners (such as CCleaner) & even windows own temp file deletion processes (in the case of at least some Security Systems) are also unable to remove them.
Again You (a human) know what they are, what program they are from, & that they will fail at removal, so you are best advised to add them to the exclude list.

It probably isn't completely off then, like a service running, etc.

If you think that is odd, this will rock your world ! !
Trying getting CCleaner to remove "C:\System Volume Information".
You need to use a special utility to even READ the contents of that folder.
I believe it is all down to Access Control Lists
I believe Comodo Security uses this for some things it wants to preserve,
and for others it may just be a service that keeps them in use and fixed in place.
N.B.
On XP I have System Restore on C:\ only.
I deleted "System Volume Information" from all the other NTFS partitions and replaced with a same named file to disable spurious monitoring.
I am sure I could do the same on Windows 7,
but my son gave me a clean installation 5 months ago so it is a bit too soon to risk wrecking it ! !
