It's official.. it's called Windows 10

New version of Windows is not 9...it's Windows 10

When it's out I'll have to play on a Win10 machine before I dare spend money on one. Hopefully it can be the next version of Windows I use and leave XP behind.

I'm excited for the Command Prompt updates. I don't know how many times a day I still try to ctrl + c/v/z/...

You wouldn't leave me on my own would you? :(

It actually sounds like a mishmash of everything that's gone before.

It may be free for win 8 users and could be discounted for those still XPing

I want Windows Eleventy Billion.

A brief history of Microsoft Windows:

Windows 98SE . . . a good one.

Windows ME . . . . a stinker.

Windows XP . . . . another good one.

Windows Vista . . . another stinker.

Windows 7 . . . . . . another good one.

Windows 8 . . . . . . another stinker.

Windows 10 . . . . . Let's hope they follow the pattern! ^_^

 If the discount is deep enough, I'll get another HDD for these old xp boxes and keep both OSs active, or maybe dual boot, or something.

win10 pretty much has to be a remix of what has gone before. Not necessarily a bad thing, just sayin'. After all just how much other stuff is there?

@Derek - don't forgot Windows 2000 and Win NT

I cannot pass judgement on them, because I've never used either one. Maybe you can fill in the blanks for me.

I'll definitely give it a go...why not?

I like 8.1 and use it as well as xp and Win7.

At the end of the day they are just machines which means my brain has to keep working :)

Here is the Microsoft announcement

http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2014/09/30/announcing-windows-10/

I feel like I'm taking Crazy Pills™ - Windows XP was trashed when it was first released, people said it had a 'fisher price' system theme, it was buggy and terrible until SP1 at the least. I feel like I'm the only one that remembers this.

Good one/bad one rhetoric aside, I'm actually quite excited. I'm going to throw the preview on my laptop (just as I did with 8) to test it out. Couldn't care less about the name, they could call it Windows Fartty McButterBottom for all I care, I'm not sure why it's a big deal that they skipped 9 (especially considering windows 9x and the fact that 7 wasn't even the 7th revision of windows)

Technical Preview will be available tomorrow. I think.

Sorry, but I don't know how to convert link to another language (like en-en).

PS - Windows 10 interface is UGLY AS EVER.

Don't think the interface is ugly really, it's only a preview and it can be customised to your liking anyway :)

en-us version

edit: d'oh, hazel ninja'd with the en-gb version

they have all been good (maybe some have been better than others) but they have all had their strengths.

@winapp2 - you're not the only one, I remember vividly the bagging XP initially received, especially with the delay in acceptance with big businesses.

my memory of ME was rose-coloured, never heard or had any problems with it, but mention it to others and you can watch their faces turn red in anger.

there was nothing wrong with Vista, it just needed more memory, and Win8 behaves normally once a 3rd party Start Menu program is added.

Win10 will be just the same with some small quirk that everyone will jump onto.

I'll be getting it right after the initial wave of nerds jumps onboard.

I remember all the conspiracy theories about it such as Microsoft will track your every move, etc.

"Windows 10" made me think of this.

See here for screenshots and explanations of what's on offer in the preview (no need to watch the silverlight movie, just look underneath)

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-how-to#how-to=tab0

a lot of the early hype seems to cover Start Screen, Start Menu, and Start button changes.

so they finally listened.
