Is the cat going upstairs or downstairs?

So what do you think?

it's obviously coming DOWN the stairs towards the cameraman.

easily worked out by the treads and risers of the staircase.

also, being a cat, they happily walk themselves down but demand to be carried up. :)

bloody cats !!!

So many opinions!

Others are insisting the cat is going up, and the viewer is looking down at mosaic stairs with a wooden lip.

No stairs I have ever seen or used have any sort of lip, it would be very counter-productive as they would trip you up.

All those believers in the UP answer just aren't very observant.

I note that you haven't given your opinion @hazelnut, come on, 'fess up.

Up :)

Ooooh, you're just saying that to mock me!!

"All depends on how you look at it." . . . Erwin Schrödinger, 1935

another fence sitter hey?!

in the words of the late Terry Pratchett, "You put a cat in a box with a bottle of poison, which many people would suggest is about as far as you need to go". ^_^

down.

but perhaps its an optical trick. we know.

. . .

Harrumph.

After a series of experiments with one of the neighborhood cats, a big tom, heretofore pretty friendly, I can say without reservation that the cat is going UP the steps. Cats going up steps point their tails up. But they don't much like it if you prod them with sticks. :(

As soon as I got bandaged up I rushed back here to report.

then it is the same crap as the dress, only here the perspecitves twisted

There is no cat it's really a rhinoceros

You went above and beyond the call of duty in your quest to answer this tricky question :)

The cat is going down. I fully agree what the video lays out.

Video? There's a video?

OK. Watched it. Thanks, had seen it. Also there is this:

Looking at the cat's shadow, and the position of his left front paw, it is patently obvious that the cat is backing up the steps.

I love it, "backing up the steps".

Covers all angles, a very politically correct response.

Should have been a politician @login123

The lines are parallel. It's an optical illusion.
