Is CCleaner still classified as malware in 2024 ? ?

I heard that CCleaner has a built-in trojan that steals user and company data. Why not make the system open source on github?

ccleaner is not malware. it is managed by the people at "avast," the makers of the "avast" antivirus program. it also is owned by the same company that owns the "norton" antivirus program.

Just to add that that one-off event in 2017 was never targeted at home users like us anyway.

It was entirely targeted at major companies such as Microsoft, Intel, Samsung, Boeing, Alphabet/Google,, etc,etc. the bad guys were after the big company's secrets.

It’s suspected that it was a certain Asian government behind it all.

(Interestingly, it does show that all those major companies use CCleaner too).

A long time ago (at least 7 years) there was a single version that was compromised by a trojan. This was qyickly fixed and led to a soecial updater that would quickly update (even if you turned off updates) if (on the rare chance that) an infection happened again.

So in short, no there is no trojan in CCleaner
