I've never used Fast stone so can't say, but IrfanView does all the quick editing jobs I ever need it to.
I tried Faststone last month and it isn't bad, however I ended up going right back to IrfanView a couple of days later. Suppose I'm just used to how IrfanView works since I've been using it for ages.
I've used Irfanview as a quick indexing program and really like it for slideshows, too.
Does anyone know if any of the others (Faststone, Xnview) allow you to "hand" outline for cropping or cutting? I know that they allow you to select square or rectangle portions of the photo, but I haven't seen the ability to select any portion you want using the mouse. I know that Paint Shop Pro can do it, and free programs such as Gimp and Paint.net can.

Not sure if this is quite what you want, but Faststone Screen Capture has a "capture freehand region" function, and the white background square the cropped image is on, can be made invisible in the Faststone Editor.

Yes, I am looking for the "freehand" outline. Would that feature allow you to outline an area of a photo, then copy and paste the freehand outline into another photo?
