I want to repair the filesystem, not create more files

I was updating Windows 7. I created a systemimage on my external harddisk. I updated the operating system and then tried to remove the 110 GB file. I partly succeded. The file disappeared from the used space but was not added to the available space. It's now a huge hole in the filesystem. I used recuva to find the file but I can't (and don't want to) recover the file since it's 110 GB. I've tried to ask on Microsoft support but they don't seem to get it. Is there any way I can repair the messed-up filesystem or will I have to forget that the space was ever there?

Thanks,

Jorgen

Perhaps your system is now confused and needs to be rebooted.

You could try chkdsk.
