Thanks for the update @John29. At the moment, you are on the latest version, so there is no need to worry about this issue as the app will continue to work as normal. I will follow up on this thread once I have an update from the team investigating the issue.
Hi.
The problem continues.
I think they changed the communication protocol, which is not supported by Windows 7 and 8.
I don’t have that problem in Windows 10.
Waiting for a prompt solution.
Thanks…
Any news on this?
No. sanmo. I suspect it will not be resolved until a new version of Ccleaner is released
Hi John29:
While you’re waiting for the next version of CCleaner v6.x to be released you should confirm that your Win 7 SP1 OS is fully patched to end of support on 14-Jan-2020 and that the KB4474419 update (rel. 23-Sep-2019) that adds SHA-2 support to Win 7 SP1 is installed. See my 18-Feb-2024 post in MsN Bhatti’s topic How to fix Live Update Failed Error 8504, 102 in the Norton forum for more information. Many Win 7-compatible software programs will not update or run correctly on Win 7 SP1 without SHA-2 support.
If you aren’t sure if KB4474419 is installed then go to Control Panel | Programs and Features | View Installed Updates and search for “KB4474419” (without the quotes). NOTE: When searching, enter the full KB number in the search box (i.e., “KB4474419” and not a partial string like “4474419”).
I don’t have a computer with a Win 7 SP1 OS but this is an example of what I would see when I searched for KB4018466 on my old Vista SP2 machine.
I doubt this has anything to do with your current CCleaner problem, but Microsoft discontinued support for Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) on 14-Jan-2020, and AFAIK most Win 7 SP1 users stopped receiving automatic virus definitions updates for MSE some time around February or March of 2025. See powderday’s 17-Feb-2025 topic Microsoft Security Essentials Acting Strange in SevenForums for more information.
Offline mpas-fe.exe installers for MSE virus definitions are still available for download <here> from Microsoft but I would suggest you move on to a fully supported third-party antivirus that is compatible with Win 7 SP1. NOTE: The mpas-fe.exe offline installer downloaded from that Microsoft support page will not install correctly unless your OS supports SHA-2.
If you still use an unsupported browser like the Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) browser built in to your Win 7 OS I’d also suggest you install a third-party browser that still supports Win 7 SP1 [e.g., Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) v115].

Let’s hope so.
I have KB4474419. That’s not the problem on that side.
I have KB4474419 installed.
version 7.0.984.1153 when running the installer it does nothing.
They definitely don’t solve anything. It was good while it lasted.
Hi sanmo:
Does this v7.00.984 installation failure also occur on your Win 10 computer?
According to Sampei Nihira’s post # 292 today in the Wilders Security Forums topic CCleaner v6 if a user has created a block in their Hosts file and/or firewall that prevents a connection to the backend Piriform/Avast servers they will be unable to run the latest CCleaner v7.00.984 stub installer (i.e., the small 1.6 MB ccsetup_online_setup.exe download manager currently offered <here> on the CCleaner builds download page) until that block is removed. I assume this applies to all Windows OSs, not just Win 7 SP1.

Hi Laurence
I now have Ccleaner version 7.0.984 on my Win 10 PC but where has “Tools” gone?? and where is opportunity to maintain “System Restore”?
I have also tried to install version 7.0.984 on Win 7 PC and it will not run at all!!! In the process of installing it, it (of course) deleted version 6.39.11548 - how can I revert to that version, at least it worked.
The latest update is supposed to fix the issue discussed here regarding Windows 7. But that’s not the case. And there’s no response from the CCleaner team either.
Hi sanmo
I had hoped that this version of Ccleaner would resolve the problem in Win 7 but I agree with you it does NOT. In fact version 7.0.984 does not run AT ALL in Win 7 because there are errors installing it - and of course atempting to install 7.0.984 it deleted the problematic version 6.39.11548!!!. I managed to get version 6.39.11548 back (problems and all) by searching the web specifically for Ccleaner Free version 6.39.11548, and from the list I chose Techspot.com then clicked on Standard to downloading it from there.I could not get 6.39.11548 directly from Ccleaner.com!! At lease now I still have a working version of ccleaner in Win 7 even though it will not chech for updates!!
Hope this helps.
Hi John29
Thanks for the information.
Based on your previous comment, where you mentioned that the tools have disappeared, I think this is a huge step backwards. It’s a shame they’ve downgraded it so much.
Indeed!!
Hi John29 / sanmo:
If I go to the official CCleaner builds page <here> and click the Download button for the legacy “Sunset” edition it offers a 84.3 MB full offline installer called ccsetup_639_win7.exe, so I’m guessing this is a Win 7 SP1-compatible installer and that CCleaner v6.39 likely will be the last version of CCleaner released for Win 7 SP1.
NOTE 1: Ignore the fact that the current legacy installer is labeled “Standard installer for Windows XP or Vista users”. CCleaner v5.64 was the last version compatible with Win XP and Vista and it now appears Avast / Piriform has removed the SHA1-signed v5.64 full offline installer for Win XP and Vista from that official builds download page and replaced it with a v6.39 installer intended for Win 7 SP1.
NOTE 2: As of today I am still able to download the legacy editions of CCleaner v5.64 *** for Win XP and Vista from the download archive at the following links:
- Standard installer (ccsetup564.exe) at https://download.ccleaner.com/ccsetup564.exe.
- Slim installer (ccsetup564_slim.exe) at https://download.ccleaner.com/slim/ccsetup564_slim.exe.
- Portable ZIP edition (ccsetup564.zip) at https://download.ccleaner.com/portable/ccsetup564.zip.
*** To get the full offline v6.39 installers for Win 7 SP1 and higher you can substitute “639” for “564” in the download links above [e.g., CCleaner Portable v6.39 (ccsetup639.zip) is available at https://download.ccleaner.com/portable/ccsetup639.zip].

Hi imacri:
Thanks for the information.
Where does it say that CCleaner 7 is no longer available for Windows 7?
I can’t find anywhere on the official website what operating systems it supports.
And I guess I should accept all of them.
Hi sanmo:
The system requirements at CCleaner7Beta currently say “CCleaner 7 is compatible with Windows 11, 10, 8.1, or 8 (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions), including Windows on ARM. Excludes S mode, Mixed Reality, Mobile, IoT, Starter, and RT editions. Cloud Drive Cleaner currently supports Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.”
I personally think it’s inexcusable that Avast / Piriform released CCleaner v7.00.984 on 06-Oct-2025 as a “stable” build when it has so many known bugs that haven’t been fixed yet.
If my suspicions are correct and Avast / Piriform has no plans to release a portable edition of CCleaner Free Portable v7.00 I will happily move on to a another disk cleaner. See my 18-Nov-2024 comments about HDCleaner (compatible with Vista SP2 and higher) in post # 271492 of Deanna McElveen’s SCleaner — Stay ahead of the cleaning in the AskWoody forum.

Thanks for the info.
It was so simple that a support member would have told us that it is not supported for Windows 7, and there would not have been so much controversy.
Very bad support for ccleaner.
Version 7 does not run on Windows 8.1 either.
Hi Laurence
Following the release of Ccleaner 7 earlier this week I would have expected some comment/guidance/information from you by now on the problem with Clceaner on PC’s using Win 7 SP1!? Has you development team “led you down the garden path”??
Windows 7 is not supported with CCleaner 7.
You can read more about this in our Help Centre article below.
https://support.ccleaner.com/s/article/ccleaner-compatibility-with-windows-7
This contains a link to install the final supported version of CCleaner 6.
