HP Pavillion Laptop update problem CC Cleaner & Defraggler

I have HP Lap Top with window Vista 32 bit. When pull CC Cleaner and go to up dates it comes up MS Office Word ( does the same thing with Defraggler). On the top of the screen it says "update (read-only) - Mi*****ft Word non- commercial". I went into CC 's properties thinking read only was checked & it was not. I uninstalled & reinstalled & it still does the same thing. I f log onto the net the home page comes up without a problem.

Does anyone have any idea what would cause this and how to correct it??

I get the feeling MS Word 2010 is seriously flawed. I've had other non-related problems with it.

I have no idea why this happens but I have read that some folk get this 'read-only' with some docs and then they cannot delete them etc. For some it turned out that closing the doc via the X in top right was not closing the doc, but merely the page. Closing down via the 'exit word' in left drop down menu solved it.

The 'read only' issue can also be helped by saving the doc as .tf, then back to .docx.

Lets see if anyone else has this ccleaner issue. Which version of Office are you using?

I am using Word 2007. I have another desk top with word 2010 & has no problem.

I'm going to disagree with the previous posters. What it actually sounds like is that you have mistakenly told mircosoft word to open HTM and/or HTML files.

Get a Copy of (portable) Default Programs Editor and look at it to see what the default open with for those two files types are.

Also is

"update (read-only) - Mi*****ft Word non- commercial"

exactly what it says? with the ***** and everything????

The top of the screen says " update (Read-Only) - Microsoft Word non-commercial". It alsp displays the word tool bar. Where you would write it says" Pirifom' then products, solutions, download support, partners and about.

What is odd it does it with CC Cleaner an Defragler. I did uninstall both and reinstalled but it does the same thing.

I loaded Default Program Editor & Checked htm files & the following came up:

Edit 2007 Microsoft Office compon HTM File files, text

Print " " " " HTM Files files

Open Notepad Text files

HTML said the exact same thing

Maybe this will help

Edit the Open and Open in Same Window (if it's there) to

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" %1

exit and in Command Line DDE put a check mark and

"file://%1",-0,,,,,

for Open

"file://%1",-1,,,,,

for open in same window

into the text field with a scope of Extensions of this file type

(this information was pulled from Windows 7 and XP but should be the same on WinVista)

You lost me on this one. What window should I be in. If you mean when I click update there is no where to enter this info

Sorry I meant in default program editor

Go to File Type Editor

Context menu

Search HTM in the search box

find the two file type htm and html

open each one (htm and html in turn)

Highlight Open and Click Edit selected command (then do the same for open in same window)

Here are pictures of the last step above and the edits to make

In all you will make 4 edits (two changes per edit)

Html -Open and Open in Same Windows

HTM -Open and Open in Same Windows

This is what I am doing:

1. click on File type settings

2. select an extension to change

3. High lite HTM and click next

4. High lite HTML and click next

5. Select & change contex menu items for HTM files comes up (HTML is not there)

6. Click " Edit Selected Command"

7. Edit Settings for Edit comes up

8. Command name &Edit (I should change this to &Open) ??

9.Program path I type in your info

10 Click.Advance settings

11.Click "Command linr DDE"

12. all is blank

Somewhere I am nissing something

If I hold control and high lite both HTM & HTML it comes up " Multiple Files"

in th item scope line.

By the way I am using a desk top to communicate with you and trying to get the lap top to respond to your instructions

No don't edit "&edit" only edit "&open" and "Open in S&ame Window"

Open control panel.

Go to Default Programs

Click on Associate a file type or Protocol with a program.

Wait for the window to populate.

Scroll down to HTML and highlight it.

Change it to open with your default browser..

I did as you said. It gave me 2 choices 1. 2007 MS Office componet or 2. Internet Explorer. When I opened it 2007MSO was hghlighted. I changed to IE. Clicked OK. Tried updates & the same problem. We back to check which was highlighted & 2007 MSO was highlighted. Tried 3 times same thing happened. For some reason it is not saving the change. Also, on the bottom it says" Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" the box is checked & cannot be changed. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you

Read the instructions on this page carefully, then download and run the fixes for HTML and HTM
