I have tried all the recommended steps to stop CCleaner from starting up when I start Windows. but none of them have worked. I tried settings within CCleaner, App Starts Ups and Task Manager Startup. All have been removed but it still opens up on all machines when starting Windows. We are using Windows 10. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, how did you fix it?
When you say “it still opens up” are you meaning that it actually opens a CCleaner window?
Or are you meaning something else?
Three things will start CCleaner with Windows and keep it running in the background.
None of them opens a CCleaner windo though.
1- Automatic Updating of CCleaner. (Options>Updates)
2- Smart Cleaning enabled. (Options>Smart Cleaning)
3- Performance Optimiser needs to run in the background if you have put apps to sleep.
If either or both of the first two is running then Windows will put a CCleaner icon in the System Tray.
If Smart Cleaning is running then, depending on how you have set it them it may open a notification if there is junk to clean, (A Windows startup does create junkfiles).
You can also set CCleaner to run a clean on startup. (Options>Settings>“Run a one-time clean with the Custom Clean tool when you start Windows”).
That shouldn’t open a window though.
There are also some scheduled tasks such as once a day checking if there is a CCleaner update, and once a day checking if there are any error logs to send. You should only see those actually running in the background for a couple of seconds and most people would never notice them.
