Using Ccleaner rather unselectively it also cleans the "recent documents' in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc). How can I avoid that? The same actually applies to data that the PC offers to remember when entering data to login to a particular site. Can that also be avoided?
And the other way around: it incidentally happens that I type the password in the same window as the login name. So, any person having access to my PC would then see my password next to the popping up remembered login name where it now seems to be part of.

Have a look in the "Applications" section of CCleaner, and see if any of those applications are listed. If so, just uncheck the box.
You could also try unchecking "Other Explorer MRU's", which covers Windows Explorer and the "Recently Viewed Files" of various applications.
To your second question, which browser are you using? There are checkboxes in browsers which control whether you want passwords are saved or not.
You can also in CCleaner, try unchecking "Saved Form Information" for Firefox, and "Autocomplete Form History" for IE.

Thx a lot Denis. The suggestion to look in the "applications" section worked! And cleaning the browser too. I'm basically using Google Chrome, and more recently SRWare Iron (strongly recommended and more protective as to personal data). The Google box was unchecked.
