Hello and goodbye

I wanted to confirm as well that with version v6.24, I too get the paywall prompt for doing custom cleans. I can confirm this was not the case in v6.23. I too am very saddened by this change and will stick with v6.23. thankfully I keep an archive of old installers so I can keep the functionality.

Sadly, to fight spammers, new members are post limited but you should be pretty close to the number of posts where you won't be limited. I think that happens at ten.

Thank you for letting us know. I will push for developer intervention once the US holiday is over. If this is an actual change i will vocally decry it.

		No nukecad, look at his screenshot custom is throwing up that paywall screen.

I see it, I was wrongly looking at the 'Get Pro' button as being the one selected so highlighted in green.

That screen is what you are shown if you click on the 'Upgrade' button.

It may be a glitch in the 'test' version that they appear to be running then, with the buttons on the left launching the wrong things?

It may not be a bug at all - but a new kind of advertising nag CCleaner are testing?

Can it simply be 'X'd out of? There is one there.

However I note that today that the screen has changed from what it was showing me yesterday. It's now showing me as below:

PS. My CCleaner Free v6.24 installed on my second laptop runs just as it should, Custom Clean is fine.

Note especially that among the other changes the second entry has been changed from saying 'Custom Cleaning' to now read 'Advanced Cleaning'.

(And the one about Support has been dropped - maybe someone in development was reading what I posted yesterday or maybe they had already spotted that they needed changing).

@Major Paiyne, @Halcyon78

How are your respective CCleaners behaving for you today?

Are you still getting the upgrade screen when you click on Custom Clean?

If so then is it the old one as posted on Saturday ; or the new one that I'm seeing today?

In either case can you close it with the 'X' in the top right and then carry on using Custom Clean?

And do you both have the version of CC Free with the 'Get Pro' button rather than 'Upgrade'?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to work out what is happening for you and why.

Nothing has changed unfortunately. I still get the screen when i click the run cleaner button. As far as what the screen says, it hasn't changed since the last one. Closing the X doesn't bypass it. It does nothing. It just takes me back to the custom clean screen. All i can do is analyze in regards to custom cleaning. I have the Free version yes but it only says upgrade to professional and not "Professional Plus" as In your screenshot. I'm here to help as much as i can, so ask away.

It's a puzzle alright.

So it's appearing whenever you click 'Run Cleaner'.

Have you tried downloading a new installer and running that to see if it installs a 'proper' version for you?

I suggest downloading the 'Slim' installer from the Builds page and running that, it does the install slightly differently: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds

Uninstall your current one first if you like or just reinstall over it.

(I've tried reinstalling a new CCleaner Free several times on my 2nd laptop just in case it will give me whatever variant you seem to have, but haven't seen it yet).

I have brought this matter to the attention of admins.

Hopefully they will deal with it as a matter of urgency.

Another user here with similar issue

Are you actually clicking the "Run Cleaner" button with a mouse, or are you using keyboard "Alt+R", or similar keyboard navigation to select the "Run Cleaner" function?

Here's a topic were I was having the same issue until I realized it was caused by a change/bug in the way "Alt+Underline Access Keys" are handled in the new v6.24-

@SumGuy

You also asked this in the thread here (were told they did not)

Another user who cannot use custom clean on the free version.

Still no info from admins despite informing them of this issue.

If I click on Upgrade I get that screen. Attmepting to run the custom clean (Not analyze, that works fine), I get the one shown before where it specifically shows "custom clean" as not part of the free version.

Though a slight oddity, I have another system that did the automatic update to ccleaner to the latest 6.24 version and it works just fine. The issue appears on a fresh install of the software.

Ok. Now we are cooking with oil! This worked for me. I do not get the nag and i was able to use the cleaner again. On the surface the slim looks and works the same as the stable full. Whats the difference? Anyways, what I did was uninstall the version I had and install the slim version. So far so good. I think i might have to cancel the funeral. ?

Sorry for the double post. I haven't figured out how to multi-quote in one reply yet. But to answer the question, I was definitely using the Custom Clean tab and just using the mouse. I didn't know you could use shortcut keys in CCleaner. You learn something new everyday.

Glad to hear that a reinstall worked, I was pretty sure that it would.

There is no difference in the CCleaner* that it installs, - it's the installer itself that is 'slim' not what it installs.

*Apart from the fact that this time you have been given the 'normal' CCleaner that most people got, rather than a testing variant that some users at random got.

If you are annoyed by the colored “Upgrade” button, you can set the following registry value to “0” (zero):

"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Piriform\CCleaner" > "(Cfg)UpgradeButtonAppearance"

Changing the appearance of that button wouldn't help at all with the issue of Custom Clean not running when 'Run Cleaner' is clicked.

I didn't claim that either!

But the “Upgrade” button is now given a different color (gray, green, orange, red) and/or a different label (“Upgrade”, “Get Pro”) for each installation. If the button is changed, this does not mean that “Custom Clean” is also locked!

I have now updated CCleaner on 5 PCs and all of them have a different color for the “Upgrade” button, but “Custom Clean” is not locked on any of them.

Yes I've just reinstalled and got an Orange background 'Upgrade' and Custom Clean works as it should.

The ones where it isn't working say 'Get Pro' and not 'Upgrade' - at least all the ones reported up to now do.

We are still waiting for any staff member to say anything at all about what is going on.

The label “Get Pro” is unfortunately also not an indicator of this, see e.g. the screenshot of Major Paiyne with the now working installation (button is orange and labeled “Get Pro”).

@APMichael

The true explanation of this is that the whole debacle is a Piriform created mess which should have never happened.
