all so you may like to look at.:huh:

I noticed it was flagged, but I had thought that was because it linked to other sites which were considered "red." Everything I've downloaded from there has been 100% clean!

I really don't know anything about giveawayoftheday because I don't trust online websites giving away software for free that is supposed to be bought. So I've never downloaded anything from them ;)

Most of what they have is Recycle Bin bound in mere minutes, however once in a long while they have something good.

Well... Have you ever gotten any viruses or spyware from that site?

GiveAwayOfTheDay is legit. Never got anything malicious from them.

As Andavari has said, much of the software isnt so great, but they have offered some nice software like BurnAware Home Edition and DefenceWall HIPS.

Eh? Why not? What is there not to trust? We've done a fair few commercial apps on vnunet.com/downloads before, which we mainly source through our previous magazine covermounts.

We're doing the full VCOM Fix-It Utilities 7 Express from tomorrow and it's the same version Avanquest UK were selling recently and was previously covermounted on PCW in January.

Yes they're legit, and I've also never gotten any malware from them.

I almost think they're flagged as red sites because of their download section for "freeware," the same way Free Download Manager (freedownloadmanager.org) get's flagged because of their download center when their actual software application FDM is 100% CLEAN and Open Source.

Anyways McAfee SiteAdvisor flags allot of stuff due to the linking of sites whereas they'll list the downloads they've gotten to be clean. We can't forget about their antivirus possibly producing a false positive.

In the end it's up to the end user to scan the downloads with suitable antivirus/antimalware software to determine if it's clean.

Sorry I didn't reply to this thread last week but I just found it.

I keep reading that Free Download Manager went "open source" but the last time I checked, I couldn't find the binary code.

Is it on Sourceforge.net?

This takes some time to load:

http://freedownload.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/freedownload/

Thanks for taking the time to search for it. I think I used the program many years ago (with a Windows ME install). I haven't thought about using it with Firefox and Flashgot because, if I my recall is correct, it's a large installation, and the freedownloadmanager.org site has some questionable associations, according to siteadvisor.

Most reviews seem to indicate that the download manager is clean, and the willingness to share the source code should be an indicator of it.

However, one has to wonder why they don't remove the other problematic software downloads from the site.

Possibly revenue, but that's just pure speculation on my part. They could get a very clean bill of health if they'd just eliminate allot of the adware/spyware stuff from their download site, and the same goes for Giveaway of the Day.
