Freezes during Stage 2 of Scan

Every time I run Recuva, it flies through Stage 1 and Stage 2, but freezes after hitting 100%.

After reading through the discussions (most of which I don't understand), I tried running it in safe mode and downloading version 1.43, but I get the same results every time. Nothing has been recovered because I can't get past Stage 2. Then the only thing I can do is end program in Task Manager and restart computer.

I lost 2 months worth of my daughter's baby pictures and videos from a small external hard drive. Please help!

Tried again without using the Wizard. This was a little better because I could see how many files it found as it scanned, but it still froze at the end of Stage 2 (analyzing damage) and did not show me any of the files found.

Is there a way to view the files that it found, even if it did not complete all 3 stages of the scan? Where would they be?

I cannot believe I lost her baby pictures.

How did these pictures get lost? What happened right before you found out they were missing?

I ran out of space on my external HD, so I copied everything over to a larger one, then deleted the first. Studpidly, I did not check to make sure everything copied first, and two of my monthly folders did not. The folders are still there, but empty. Nothing is in the Recycling Bin because I deleted such large folders, I got a message that it can't fit in the Recycling Bin and will just be deleted. I'm not totally panicked yet because as Recuva scanned, it said that it found more than 15,000 items, so I'm sure they're there, but I haven't been able to see them yet.

As soon as Stage 2 starts, cancel it (within Recuva). You should then get your list of files.

I recently installed 1.44.778 on a XP (SP2) machine and Win 7 Pro machine (64). 26/12/2012. (I am looking for photos moved from one machine to the other and then deleted from both....very senior moment!)

The XP machine ran Stage 1 - 3 fine...found and restored many lost photos but not the ones I am after.

The Win 7 machine runs stage 1 ok, but hangs/freezes/crashes at between 63% and 73% complete on Stage 2. It grinds away for 4-5 mins and then crashes with a MS report as foloows

I have tried the following

  1. Ran Recuva on the Win 7 machine but recovering files from a USB stick - results OK.
  2. Ran Recuva on the WIN 7 machine in safe mode - reults - crash

I was wondering if there is an issue with disc size with win7. I am no tech/dev trust me. But it seems strange it works on the USB stck and not the HD.

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum. I had read somewhere that there is a WIN 7 forum but I could not find it. If someone can point me in the right direction...cool.

Have you tried running it from a new user account (control panel/users/create new).

Sometimes a user profile will become corrupted & cause problems.

Also, does it do the same if you use 1.44 (1 version newer) or 1.42 (1 version older)?
