Free trial ending/subscription renewal

Some time ago i downloaded the application to get rid of some junk files and free up space on my pc.

Fast forward to today and i get a message saying money has left my account without me knowing about i. I googled the name on the receipt and was surprised.

I had completely forgotten about the trial. But most importantly why doesn’t this company send out any warnings beforehand? Like before the trial is close to expiring? Like not a single email?

I contacted support about the refund immediately but i haven’t heard back from them yet. And reading some of other people’s experiences with them i kinda doubt i will be getting my money back at all.

This is a very suspicious thing to do.

Really? You gave a company your card/bank details to enable payment a trial for a product unless ou cance and didn’t remember that you had done that?
Do you regularly forget payments that you have agreed to make?

That “agree to pay unless cancelled” arrangement is not unusual, it is a common practice for software trials.
(Whether we think that is should be or not, it is common).

You always have the choice not to take the trial and not to give any payment details - if they don’t have your card/bank details then they can’t charge you anything.

Practical advice going forward-
Support are well known for being slow to reply these days, there are loads of complaints about it on here.

One thing that you should not do is to send follow up requests, the way the automitic system works adds all requests you send together and each time you send a new one they all go right to the back of the queue again.

Have patience and wait for you request to get up to the top of the automatic queue and be shown to a person.

I didn’t give my my bank or card details. I just connected my PayPal and proceeded on.

And yes i forgot about it, i haven’t used my pc for months now so that software completely slipped my mind, as i mentioned i got no emails about the ending of the trial which would have been really helpful as someone struggling with amnesia.

I just think its very strange and suspicious that a company doesn’t send out any emails about a expiring trial so people can take action sooner and not have to complain here and wait for the support to answer.

Paypal is linked to your bank or card.

Again having no reminder is standard practice, if you take a trial then it isn’t the companys fault if you forget what you have done.

BTW. If/when a company does send reminders about things people then complain about getting ‘unneeded’ reminders.

I think that we can all agree that we don’t like the idea of taking payment details up front for any trial of anything, but it is a standard method of doing software trials.

TBH if any trial of anything asks me for payment details up front then I forget that product and look for another - there’s plenty of choice out there.
