Free Email.

I have been asked to set up about 8 email addresses for a family who isn't overly interested in paying for a domain or setting up a bunch of hotmails.

Is there anything out there in the world of free lame web based email where i could set up 8 whoever@blahblahs.tk

If it doesn't make sense don't blame me! blame my weak pot of coffee this morning.

Gmail!

Go to www.gmail.google.com

They have a great, free email called Gmail and my email is Gmail. It's really good! I recommend it. :)

Yup. Like acooldozen and Icedrake said, Gmail. :D

Opera Mail, and it doesn't even require the Opera web-browser.

Yahoo has the best web based email in my opinion then live(hotmail) and then gmail.

Gmail is the best if you plan on using pop3 since its free but the gmail web interface has ads everywhere even with adblock. Plus the new ajax yahoo is just so slick.(oh and live can have free pop3 with the live mail program free from microsoft.)

Anyway what I think you want is to be able to set up a free email with @whateverdomainyouwant.com. Which I think aol does...

I don't see any adds in Gmail. Besides the great GUI and pop3 access the thing that made me dump Yahoo and Hotmail was no ads in Gmail. Both Hotmail and Yahoo Mail had obnoxious in your face ads if I wasn't using Adblock Plus. Also the emails you send to people using Yahoo Mail have stupid ads with them so you force that crap on the recipients of your messages. Gmail does not do that.

Yeah I totally agree. I don't get a single ad in Gmail either, and had/have problems with my hotmail periodically (wont seem to let me reply to messages).

Gmail has ads every time you read a message all down the right side of the screen.

Even worse is that they are contextual ads that are based on what your message is about. I can see them even with adblock plus installed in firefox 3. To me that is way worse than any signature ads that yahoo puts in. In the old yahoo firefox blocks all ads and in the new version it blocks all the ads and then you can shrink the little bar on the right it if bothers you.

The ads aren't the main reason for me not using gmail anyway though. I decided it was easier to manage all my mail with web based email and that I wasn't really getting any added benefit from using thunderbird/outlook with gmail that I wouldn't get with the new yahoo. I really like the new live email too but its too hard to switch and I'm tired of having multiple emails(besides my spam account anyways).

yes this is what i want indeed. I will check this out.

thanks ridge!

Honestly rridgely I don't get a single add on my gmail. Nadda. Nothing. In fact there is not one part of my screen with my gmail open that shows anything not part of my gmail email. I would post a screenshot but it has a lot of contacts personal names and emails on it so I can't. :)

All I am using is adblock plus, with the filterset. g updater and element hiding helper with the firefox 2. whatever and it stops everything. In fact, I dont seem to get ads almost anywhere i surf on the net. And I don't use a hostfile either.

Have been using Gmail for a couple years now, both with Opera & IE7..............No Ads anywhere, anytime! ;)

I dont use the element hider thing so maybe thats it?

I dont really want to post a screenshot of mine either for the same reasons. :P

Try this add-on to Adblock Plus, it's called Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper. You may have do some fiddling around to figure out exactly what to block. NOTE: Backup your Firefox profile before installing and using it, because if you goof up it's rather easy to remove all the viewable content.

You can block most if not all the ads in all the web mails with Ad Block Plus. Without an ad blocker Gmail has the least amount of ads of the web mails. More annoying IMO is the stupid ads Yahoo mail attaches to your emails that you send. So who ever gets your message no matter what email service they use they get those stupid ads attached to your message. Sometimes they even look like they are the message. Very annoying.

You are right on about those Yahoo E-mails.

I get the priviledge of reviewing the E-mail and it is amusing to see these formal looking letters with garbage at the bottom.Does the sender see these ads before they are sent?
