I've used CCleaner on my xp computer many times and never had a problem. This is the first time I've used it with vista. I ran CCleaner and I went through the registry errors one at a time. They were all related to uninstalled software. Anyway, now whenever I shut down /restart I get this error message- schtasks.exe failed to initialize (number X number) Click ok to close. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Schtasks.exe is used for scheduled tasks from the command
line, but the fact that it's running on shutdown is a bit strange.
Event viewer may provide a bit more information on the nature of the task
that's failing to initialise. You could look in there for more info.

Forgive my ignorance. What is the event viewer?
Go into your control panel, click on administrative tools and then event viewer.
Have a look around there to make yourself familiar with it.
EDIT...
just noticed you are using vista, click start, and then in the start search box just type eve. The bigger dialog box will list the word programs with event viewer underneath, click on it.
Or you can type the full words event viewer in and press enter.
