I wonder when they're going to fix this problem. It's really annoying for low-mem computers because just FF itself takes up almost 100mb of memory. So if you had around 512 mem, that's about 1/5 of the total memory. Also, there's other programs running...

EDIT: OMG, Look at this picture: Check out the amount of mem FF is taking up on this guy's PC!

I run a 256 MB of RAM PC so you can imagine how badly FF would impact my own system :lol: . The odd thing is I never noticed how much of a memory hog it could be until people started saying it was.

I have McAfee on my computer and its 448 MB of RAM. Now I've switched to Opera and I'm probably going to dump McAfee too.

Firefox Memory Usage Doesn't Always Go Down

This is generally not an issue, and does not represent a memory leak. Why? When Firefox is finished with memory, it releases

it to its heap. However, operating system reports this memory as being in use, even though Firefox is not using it for

anything. A common symptom of this is the amount of memory used by Firefox going up, but not coming down - instead staying

constant.

It work best if you got some ram 256 MB ok on XP with 2000 MB load in 1/2 the time go's very good you not know it firfox.

Actually I have 447 mb RAM. I'm thinking about getting some more RAM but... I don't know

firefox 3 is supposed to fix the memory leaks but they've been saying that since 1.0.

Firefox 3.0 Beta 4 uses less memory than IE7, Opera 9.5 Beta 1 and Firefox 2.0.0.12 while it opens multiple pages. Just as importantly, the newest beta of Firefox 3 does a much better job reclaiming memory when tabs are closed than its predecessor, Firefox 2.0.0.12.

FF 3.0 is much better than FF 2 in memory leaking terms but overall, Firefox is still hogging way too much memory and I'm using FF 3 beta 5.
