FireFox uses the most memory of the 7 browsers I have installed.
Yes, it always has been.
firefox 3 is supposed to fix the memory leaks but they've been saying that since 1.0.
I wonder when they're going to fix this problem. It's really annoying for low-mem computers because just FF itself takes up almost 100mb of memory. So if you had around 512 mem, that's about 1/5 of the total memory. Also, there's other programs running...
EDIT: OMG, Look at this picture: Check out the amount of mem FF is taking up on this guy's PC!
On my PC, with 12 or more tabs open all the time, Firefox 3 uses half the memory of Firefox 2. It's much faster too.

I can assure you that isn't normal. FF is a hog but not like that. That guy probably hasn't shut down FF in a month or he has 500 hundred extensions installed but that isn't normal even for FF.
I heard that reducing the amount of extensions in FF reduces the amount of mem FF takes; is this true? Also, is there something called "prefetching" in FF? Because I haven't noticed anything like that.
Also, could someone take a look in my Opera problem topic and see what the problem is?
now on 42 MB but run from 22 to 55 MB Firefox have help with this, addons can go bad & leak memory, try in tools > Options Pick disable now see how it go if ok add one at a time till you find the bad one, then Pick uninstal & fit new & it fixed.
88,448 K = 86 MB CPU 2% [ on 1 May 2008 ] explorer 8,996 K Ad-Aware 44,440 K = 43 MB

I can vouch for that too, as I'm sitting here typing this and it's using 71,312 k and slowly but surely feeding on some more k each second.
Y'all quit complaining and get the beta.
I've been using Firetune for Firefox, found here. Follow the directions - it seems to help with Firefox 2.
Then again, I don't have a many extensions (about 6), and I never have a lot of tabs open at once.

The new beta actually doesn't do anything about the memory leaks. It does improve Firefox overall but it doesn't deal with the memory leak issue. I hope they fix it before the final release of FF3.
Ummmmm.....
I believe it does, actually. I see proof of it as I type.
I'm using FF2 right now -- about 54MB.
Oops. May have spoken too soon. Have been online using FF2 for a while -- now at 100MB

How much mem is Firefox using right now? Do you have more than 1 tab open?
7 tabs open here.. 100 mb with ff3

I just restarted FF - used CCleaner while it was closed - and have 15 tabs open currently. I always have at least 12 open.
Mem is 95mb. I'll post the number again within the next few hours.
115mb now.
Thats still almost 2 times the memory Opera uses with 16 tabs open. Opera used only about 50 mb memory while my FF used 100mb+. I use Firefox and Opera though, Firefox for the addons and Opera for the speed, reliability, and others.
