Files not found, only System Volume Information

Hi,

I started to move (unfortunately not copy) video files from several small hdds to a brand new WD My Book 3.5" external USB 3.0 harddrive. Suddenly this harddisk doesn't react any more in the Windows (8.1 64Bit) Explorer.

Then the folder which I was copying to, disappeared and I got an error message which I can't remember now unfortunately. I tried to eject the drive but Windows couldn't do it and said the drive is busy.

I think the reason why the drive doesn't react any more is a problem with my USB Controler. It makes trouble from time to time with all kinds of USB devices. I think it partly disconnected the hdd while windows was writing...

So I rebooted but after the reboot the folder is still gone. But the space consumption looks like the files are still there. (1.35TB free from 3.63TB)

So I installed Recuva and made a search, which didn't found anything. After that I made a suggested deep search. After four hours it results in 0 files found and 19451 files ignored.

After researching why files are ignored, I clicked Options, then clicked Actions and activated that 0 Byte files and securely delete files are not hidden..

Then I hit search again and after just a few seconds I I got 1 file found and 19451 igrnored. The one file found is called 7{3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752} and located in J:\System Volume Information with a size of 2.92GB.

Now I don't know what to do next. Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi:

That file seems produced by Volume Shadow Copy Service.

You could also try checking the “Scan for non deleted files” and/or “Show securely overwritten files” in Options > Actions.

See if someone recognizes your problem and shed some light.

Greetings.

Thank you for your reply.

I've done that, unfortunately with the same result :(

Any further ideas?

Thank you.
