Files ignored

I’m using a free version of Recuva and after scanning for files it said that 27 out of 29 files are ignored, I really need these files so is there a way to view them or is it a paid option? Thanks.

The paid-for version has exactly the same scanning function as the Free version.
(So save your money).

There are various reasons why files may be being ignored.
It might help if you could tell us what kind of drive you are scanning (HDD, SSD, USB stick, SD card, other?), how the files were lost (deleted in error, device crashed, drive crashed, other?), and if you are using Recuva’s Wizard or the Advanced Options.

Thanks for the reply,

I am scanning a HDD drive, the files were lost by deleting them via Windows 10 install because I deleted the wrong portion of the device, I am using the Advanced Options.

That sounds as if they may be System Files then, are those what you are looking for?

Do you have this option selected:

If they were your own files then the Windows reinstall may have overwritten the data, so although Recuva can see the previous file loction it can also see that there is System data there now.

The OS was (and also is right now) on partition C: so I don’t believe it got overwritten because the files I am looking for are on F: partition
Edit: Also yeah I have almost every setting in Actions on

Ignored files generally include non-deleted files, zero length, system and any files excluded by any selection criteria.

A ‘Deep Scan’ may help if you hadn’t already selected that.

Also if you know what the files were then selecting the specific filetype to scan for in the box next to ‘Options’ may help.

And maybe even give the Wizard a shot? You never know.

As with any recovery attempt though, sometimes you just can’t get everything that you are looking for.
(That’s why we always advise making backups, it’s much easier having a copy than trying to recover).

If Recuva can’t get what you are after then there are other file recovery apps out there to try, but of course they may cost.

I’ve already done a Deep Scan, I could try again if nothing.
As of the file type thing, it dosen’t show anything regardless so I’ll give the Wizard a shot
I’ll report back in a hour or two. (unless I forget). Thanks for the help.

I tried canceling the scan right after it has found all 27 files (26 because the last one is deep in) and it showed all 26 files, so I don’t understand why it would hide it when it’s doing a full scan. As of the Wizard it didn’t help at all. However when I attempted to recover to same partition (F:/) it said that there isn’t enough space

You should never, ever, try to recover back to the drive you are recovering from.
If you do that then you will probably, almost certainly, be overwriting the very files that you are trying to recover and so the recovery will fail.
Always recover to a different drive, and preferably a different disk not just a different partion on the same disk.

It is not unusual for a recovert programme to say that you need more space to recover deleted files than than the original drive capacity.
That’s usually due the the fact that a file may have had more than one version deleted during it’s lifetime (ie. by ‘Save As’ of edits) so there may/will be more than one copy found in the file table, and the recovery programme will try to recover them all so wants enough space for them all.

As for cancelling the scan, you have probably cancelled after the first scan that looks for files it may be able to recover, but before it has finished (or even started) the second scan that checks each file found to see it it is actually recoverable.
See: How does Recuva work?

Recuva performs two scans whether you use the regular recovery or deep scan process. The first scan analyzes your computer and searches for files that Recuva can try to recover. The second scan then analyzes those files to assess the chances of their successful recovery.

If you stop the first scan while it’s in progress, Recuva will not display any information about the files. If you stop the second scan while it’s in progress, you will be able to view the files Recuva has found, but the status information will not be as accurate as a full scan would provide.
