Entry point not found

i can’t use the cc cleaner on my windows, i have re-installed but there is a box saying the procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll

What Windows version are you running?

ADVAPI32.dll is a Windows System file that can sometimes have issues.

For Windows 8 and above:
Try running the sfc /scannow command to scan and fix system file errors.

If sfc /scannow doesn’t find/fix the error then the usual next thing to try is the command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Then run sfc /scannow again.

However if you are running Windows 7 then you need to do it slightly differently, see here:

Thank you for your feedback. Windows 7 super lite ( i know it is very old)
It did not work with the scanhealth as well, it says it is not recognized in this context. The DISM log file can be found at C :\windows\logs\DISM\dism.log

I had never heard of that version, it appears to be a bootleg - a modified version of Win7 SP1.
(It’s actually not that old, 2017, it’s just based on an old Win7).

Being SP1 could be why the DISM scanhealth command didn’t work, I believe that only works with Win7 SP2.

I’m out of my depth I’m afraid, but can point you to where you are likely to get help from Win7 guru’s:

Dear Developers Team,

CCleaner v6.32.0.11432 was automatically downloaded and installed on my Windows 7 SP1 64-bit computer, about 2 weeks ago.

It cannot use advapi32.dll v6.1.7600.16385 (procedure entry point EventSetInformation cannot be located in advapi32.dll).

My previous version of CCleaner (I suppose it was v6.26.0.11169, but I have found the empty files ccupdate629_free.exe and ccupdate631_free.exe) didn’t have this issue. Also, no other application I use has any issue regarding advapi32.dll.

Are you aware of this problem?

Do you intend to correct it in the next version? CCUpdate.exe v25.1.17.0 seems to work.

Thank you.

Hi @sofprob,

I’ll bring this to the attention of the staff.

However have you tried updating to 6.32 again? It may have just been a glitched update.
Try the ‘Slim’ installer from here: CCleaner - Download Builds

@nukecad, thank you for your answer.

The problem is CCleaner v6.32.0.11432 and advapi32.dll v6.1.7600.16385 cannot work together.

Please do forward my posts to the appropriate personnel. I need to know if this issue shall be fixed in the next version of the application.

@nukecad,

Any resolve yet?

Sorry we don’t normally get feedback from the devs unless it’s a ‘hot’ problem, and sometimes not even then.

As this only seems to be affecting Win7 at the moment then I expect that any fix will just be notified as a one-liner in a regular monthly update (hopefully for you it may be in 6.34?).

PS. I assume that you have tried this months 6.33 update?

CCUpdate v25.1.17.0 runs daily reporting successful termination. However, CCleaner has not been updated so far. Anyway, the release notes of the latest version (v6.33.11465) do not mention any dll file incompatibility fix.

@Laurence_CCleaner, would you be so kind as to shed some light from the development team regarding the latest four posts of this thread?

@MrA, @Jan_CCleaner, @TomK_CCleaner, @Dave_CCleaner,

It seems the incompatibility between CCleaner v6.32.0.11432 and the succeeding version and advapi32.dll v6.1.7600.16385 on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit computers is not going to be addressed, or not very soon, anyway.

I would like to thank each and every person who worked or works on this application and for making it available to an interested user like me.

My best wishes to all the staff and the community.
