Empty Folders

Hello,

is there a "option" for enable/disable deleting empty folders.

I can find it anywhere, but it deletes always my empty folders...

I have "Custom Files & Folders" where i have selected every Hard Disc and File "thumbs.db", maybe it has something to do with this?

I tryed it out just now again, i made an Empty Folder on my USB Harddisc, the same where it also looks for "thumbs.db" and the Empty Folder just vanished right in front of my Eyes...

Can someone Help me?

Is it a BUG, or is this normal that CCleaner deletes Empty Folders?

CCleaner isn't wired to delete any empty folders. It's a feature which has been asked for many times, but which as far as I'm aware will never happen.

Instead of using a custom entry to delete all "thumbs.db" files, why not just prevent them being created in the first place.

Open any Windows Explorer window (not Internet Explorer), and go to "Tools\Folder Options\View" and scroll down to "Do not cache thumbnails" and uncheck the box.

This is in XP, so I don't know if it's the same in other Operating Systems.

You can then delete them all, one time, and then get rid of that "Include", which may fix your problem.

Welcome to the forum by the way ot4ku.

No, itzs a matter of fact CCleaner deletes the empty Folders, try it out. Go to Custom Files & Folders, add there a USB Stick or something, selec there delete files "thumbs.db" and save, then jsut create a Empty Folder on the USB Stick, it deletes the Folder.

I dont havr "thumbs.db" activated, i already deactivated it years ago, but there are many archives i download where this thumbs.db files are includet, so i always have to check my harddisc again for this files. It deletes every folder that is empty, there is no thumbs.db file in the folder its just that it only happens when i make ccleaner look for thumbs.db.

Maybe you can move this to BUG Reporting, it seems its a BUG in the app.

Perhaps you have something wrong with how you have specified your inclusions.

I suggest you use the "Save to Ini" option and make a copy of CCleaner.ini with the name CCleaner.txt and attach.

A possible explanation is a problem with how you stipulate a recursive seek and destroy.

Does this problem exist with empty NTFS folders of any name on the operating drive C:\,

or does it need some other format on a special Flash Drive ?

How is the Include entry coded?

Include1=FILE|C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\ot4ku\Lokale Einstellungen\Anwendungsdaten\ACD Systems\Catalogs\120\Default\|Thumb1.fpt

Include2=FILE|C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\ot4ku\Lokale Einstellungen\Anwendungsdaten\ACD Systems\Catalogs\120\Default\|Thumb2.fpt

Include3=PATH|C:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF

Include4=FILE|D:\Files_ot4-wpc\Apps\Other\ACD See 2.4 (Classic)\|image_db.aid

Include5=PATH|D:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF

Include6=PATH|G:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF

Include7=PATH|H:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF

Include8=PATH|J:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF

Include9=PATH|K:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF

Include10=PATH|L:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF

Include11=PATH|M:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF

Include12=PATH|P:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF

Include13=PATH|Q:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF

it deleted now all my file struicture with empty folders i had, i come to hate this programm... how can it delete my empty folders without asking anything... i didnt say he should do this :///

please help me if anyone can, it still deletes all the empty folders, i have win xp sp3 ntfs. thanks

*EDIT* I found now a other Tool Freeware that deletes thumbs.db without problems, seems i have to use this one for thumbs.db sepertaly :/ hope they fix this bug soon so i dont need 2 tools for cleaning.

The issue is the "removeself"

You told it to include file, subfolders and the folder itself

post-21882-0-73709600-1315445960_thumb.jpg

Of course i did, otherwise it would only delete C:\thumbs.db and not look in folders and subtrees.... it deletes all empty folders, there isnt even a thumbs.db on the whole harddisc anymore, so whats the reason that "REMOVESELF" gets CCleaner to delete Empty Folders? A hidden feature?

"if you want CCleaner to delete empty folders just add "Include1=PATH|C:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF to your settings"

Dosent have anything to do with thumbs.db it just deletes empty folders, even if ther is no thumbs.db at all...

You are so horribly wrong.

It is NOT a hidden feature - it says it will remove itself and that is what it does - with enthusiasm ! ! !

Have another look at your choices.

Try the middle choice, i.e.

"Include Files and subfolders"

Obviously "subfolders" means that it WILL "look in folders and subtrees."

Personally I always analyse first to approve of what will go before it is gone just in case something bad happens.

I cannot understand why you would go into Advanced and add inclusions without doing an analyse to see if you had correctly guessed what to do.

I absolutely loathe and detest Adobe *.SOL cookies.

I have no love for any FLash so I destroy all their junk with my inclusions

Include11=PATH|%APPDATA%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Flash Player\AssetCache\|*.*|RECURSE
Include12=PATH|%APPDATA%\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\|*.*|RECURSE
Include13=PATH|C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Flash Player\AssetCache\|*.*|RECURSE
Include14=PATH|C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\|*.*|RECURSE

Before I finalised I first very carefully analysed, and I liked what I saw before I executed a clean.

Had I specified |*.SOL| instead of |*.*| I might have been surprised - but I would have recognised the danger and aborted.

Of course i did, otherwise it would only delete C:/thumbs.db and not in the subfolders of the Hard Disc -_-.....

Its like sying "if you want CCleaner to delete EMTY FOLDERS just add Include1=PATH|C:\|thumbs.db|REMOVESELF to your config." (dont forget includeX Number)

Dosent have anything to do with "thumbs.db", but it removes all empty Directorys on the Harddisc, its not a BUG, its a Hidden FEATURE!!

There isnt even a thumbs.db File in the Folder, it just deletes every empty folder, so how can it be the fault of the THIRD Option?

Does it say in third Option to delete Empty Folders? NO, so you are Terribly Wrong! It deletes Empty Folders without reason.

It dosent even show in the Details that it deleted Empty Folders, sow it dosent help if you first look at the details, it wont show it deleted or will delete Empty Folders, they just vanish. Didnt you try this? Try it out before you write here like you know anything... it seems you are Terribly wrong....

Sorry, I did fail to test this, which I have now done.

I agree that empty folders do get removed by the needless |REMOVESELF

CCleaner is working well as Nergal has stated.

I think you should be thankful that CCleaner is not working in the obvious fashion.

If it did find a thumbs.db then not only would it have removed thumbs.db,

but also your |REMOVESELF argument should have deleted the folder which contained thumbs.db

and any *.bmp bit image files that might exist in the folder ought to have been removed along with the folder that contained thumbs.db.

What you ought to use is the proper argument, namely

|RECURSE

I have just tested the following on my system and it only removes all instances of thumbs.db, and all empty folders survive.

Include20=PATH|M:\|thumbs.db|RECURSE
