I do very little on my computer (at 85 years of age) but when I run a “scan,” it shows over 2800 duplicates, including over 85 documents. I do not use Office, just Notepad. Some entries show as many as five or more duplicates. Is this normal?
DO NOT remove all those duplicate files- if you do then your computer will stop working properly (or at all).
Many of those files are needed duplicates, needed by Windows itself or by installed apps.
The duplicate file finder in CCleaner7 is dangerous for an unwary user.
Leave it alone or be very careful only to delete your own duplicates and not System or Application duplicates.
why would a company add a function that will literally BREAK a computer. This is screaming class action lawsuit.
You might as well ask why a company sells any powerful tool.
Powerful tools are useful- IF/when you know how to use them corectly.
If you haven’t taken the time to learn how to use any tool safely then you are likely to get things wrong.
Chainsaws are another poweful tool, and very useful when used correctly for the right job - but if you try to carve your Thanksgiving/ChristmasTurkey with one then it’s not going to end well.
Or if you drop a tree on your house then don’t blame the chainsaw.
If you run a Batch Select and Delete without knowing what you are doing then it will end in problems.
I definitely agree that CCleaner should be doing more to prevent unwary users making such mistakes, (the previous developers would never have included a Batch Select) but in the end you have to take your own responsibility for your own actions.
