If you mean secure file erase CC overwrites the file with zeroes (one pass only), renames it and then deletes it. So not a lot more than an additional edit/save and rename.
If you mean wipe free space then all free clusters are overwritten with zeroes. So the same as an additional edit/save.
In my opinion the effects are negligible on an hdd, unless you're running WFS on an hourly basis, and even then the effects are not much. On an SDD it's entirely different, and in general terms don't use either secure file erase or WFS.
