Hi all, I have two stubborn fragments in my MFT (Windows 8.1 Pro) I want to consolidate into one fragment. I have 2 questions.
1) Does Defraggler handle this?
2) Are two MFT fragments bad for system performance (Gaming Rig).
TIA !

1) No. Windows defragmenting API (which Defraggler uses) doesn't allow to defragment MFT.
2) I think a fragmented MFT doesn't matter anymore for current NTFS implementation. Two fragments are nothing to worry about.
A $MFT that has 2 fragments is nothing to worry about.
Not only would making that file into one contiguous block literally have no performance benefit, the chances of it getting fragmented again would be very high.
Thanks for the replies. Defl\raggler did attempt to defrag the MFT and it jumped from 2 fragments to 5. I was able to bring it back down to 2 fragments by running defrag c: -w -v from the command prompt.
I guess there's no need to worry about 2 fragments then.
