DLLArchive Question!

Installed DLLArchive from http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/system/dllarch.htm

as suggested from 46 Best ever free utilities site

http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm

Well, as soon as I started to archive after the scan, I received this scary text box (I should have taken a shot of it) message warning me Windows needs these files and they have been changed and to insert the XP CD and download SP2. It scared the tar out of me so I just restored everything. There is a column headed HITS and all off these files had zero, meaning I suppose they were never used. That is probably one of the search criteria. Should I have left them all archived for a while and seen what, if anything happened or did I do the right thing restoring immediately?

This is why we don't recommend programs that remove or archive DLLs; they perform best-guesses, and usually guess wrong. Windows file protection is trying to put back the DLLs that are archived.

Best thing to do is put DLLArchive away, and restore any missing files:

Have your XP CD handy, it will ask for it:

Start, Run...,

sfc /purgecache

then after that finishes,

Start, Run...,

sfc /scannow

I was looking at that same program the other day. I decided to stay away from it, since the website said it was last updated 5 years ago.
