'Device not ready' after scanned HDD has turned off and on?

I'm using an older portable version of Recuva (v1.46.9.1.9) to deal with the 'long file path' error when it came to transferring files I found occur with later versions. This time transfer of files had been going really smoothly with no error.

The problem I face now is that during a short power outage the external HDD I had scanned shut down and turned on again (it is attached to a laptop, so there was no loss of the scan results). Now when I go to recover/transfer selected files, the transfer fails saying 'Device is not ready'. I have tried to transfer the files across after causing the external HDD to 'wake up' from its dormant state, but still getting the same error

This is done with Windows 7 64-bit and the files are being transferred to the laptop's HDD.

Is there a way around this, or am I having to do a full scan yet again to try to get the rest of the files? Thank you!

August's version handles long paths better, have you tried it?

v1.48.980 (12 Aug 2013)

- Added UDF drive support.

- Added user choice for recovery involving long path names.

- New options for recovering to drives with insufficient space.

- Enhanced file detection for small-capacity drives.

- Improved options for context menus.

- Minor GUI improvements.

- Minor tweaks and fixes.

however for this issue, yes you probably need a rescan, sorry.
