why do some desktop pc icons no longer work after cc cleaning?

Can you give some more info please such as operating system used, which build of CCleaner.

Also if you did a registry clean.

Some examples please of which icons don't work after cleaning.

Using Windows 10, Google Chrome, cc version 5.61.7392. I think I did clean registry also. Egs. of icons that do not open the programs: google chrome, weather.com, myzmainim.com. I can access these via internet, but the desktop icons stopped working. Other icons do work. Thanks for your reply.

If you still have the reg file you could try restoring it to see if that caused it.

unfortunatly you will have to delete those shortcuts, run cCleaner again, then drag from browser to desktop to remake them. cClenaer saw a problem in the reg that it deleted and by doing to fixed the reg. undoing it may cause more problems.

Thank you to hazelnut and Timothy for you replies. For a different reason I needed to shut down and reboot, and when I did, everything came back working fine. An unexpected and happy ending.
