I had a freebie Backup and Restore Program (not anymore) that made a duplicate copies of "everything" and placed it into a folder called Backup, placed it on the C drive.
I had to use the program. Now that all is well I tried to remove all the files it put on the C drive under Backups and can't. I've tried Safe Mode without luck.
What I'm wanting to remove is a duplicate of the files that are supposed to be there. Is there a way?
1.Open Command prompt type DEL hit space bar and drag/drop file into command prompt window.
2.Open Task Manager/processes and kill explorer.exe, go to CMD prompt and hit enter.
3. Go to Task Manager/New Task and type explorer hit ok..
Even then some files/folders are so damn stubborn to delete that the only way that I could delete them was to boot from a Paragon boot cd, mount the drive and delete from there.
Maybe give Unlocker a try, see if it can unlock whatever process is stopping it from being moved.
No harm in trying. I believe the trouble is that I'm actually trying to delete system files.. They are copies but still system files. I may never get rid of them until a reformat. There are 8.9GB of files, making the system exactly twice as large on the hard drive as it should be.
If I ever get them away, I'll be sure an post with the solution.
Also try renaming the files before trying to delete.
Just now tried to rename folders and try the Unlocker that way. I could rename Windows but PC would not allow me to rename Programs. Got the same answer as before.(Atch above)
I tried to follow the procedures referenced on the error window and got to a Microsoft page. Was doing OK until I got to an item giving directions to do so and so for Debugging. That part was not in my directory.
I forgot to state that I'm using Vista. I believe the instructions were for prior OS's as it mentioned ME once as well as XP. Saw no mention of Vista.
Back where I started. However, I don't keep a lot of data on the PC so if I had a good backup I wouldn't mind a reformat. Was going to buy and download Ghost but the price pushed me away from that. Had the program long ago and liked it. Wasn't as expensive then.
What was the name of the program you used to make the backups with?
Don't know which version of vista you have but there are plenty of tips about how to take ownership of files in vista so that you can delete them and not get the access denied thing.

The Backup Program is the one in the Vista System. Don't think it is named as such. Have tried it twice and it failed each time. For instance, did the complete backup of all files, except for OS files, then reformatted. Tried to restore. The Backup has a Restore Feature and it failed to do it's job. Some programs would not run after. It replaced zero icons back on the desktop. It was generally a mess.
I have Vista Home Premium 32Bit. It's late for me here in the Colonies. Will return tomorrow. Thanks for the information.
